We see a picture of our Mothering God in David’s words, “He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge” (Psalm 91:4). Psalm 91 is full of promises to the Lord’s faithful ones. But the One who taught us to love our enemies said that He wanted to mother even the killers of God’s servants the prophets, the very ones about to kill him. The love and protection of our Mothering God is offered unconditionally to all who will receive it.
“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often have I desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!” Luke 13:34 (NRSV)
