We are constantly shown images of perfect lives, bodies, jobs, and families. These images are not harmless. They create distress. They create entries to voices in our heads about how everyone else has it so good and we have it so bad. It is really the sin of envy. It is a mirage. It looks like something refreshing from a distance, but when you get close, it goes away. All humans have their flaws, brokenness and problems; they may successfully hide it behind a perfect image. Let the Lord help you deal with the not-so-perfect things in your life. Stop wishing away your problems, seek solutions and start to grow.
“But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.” James 3:14-16 (NIV)
