Without the mercy of God we do not even have a prayer. Because of the mercy of God we can pray with confidence. We can claim the promise, “Whoever comes to me, I will in no wise cast out.” (John 6:37). We can know that this mercy of God also makes the promise, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousnesses” (1 John 1:9). Both of these promises were important to me when I first came to Christ; they still are. Mercy offers acceptance when justice does not; “I will in no wise cast out.” Rest in Christ’s mercy; believe His promise.
