In Paul’s writing, the phrase, “in Christ”, refers to the believer’s solidarity with Messiah and His mission. “In Messiah” we find the unrelenting love of God. He is the full expression of God’s love. Love flows from the Father through Him. We are in this love if we are in real union with Christ. This love is not undependable, but is a hang-in-there-with-us kind of love that never lets go. “Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.”
“For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” Romans 8:38-39 (NASB).
