“Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you’” Hebrews 13:5 (ESV).
We need money to exchange for goods and services. We want it because it helps deliver us from our fears of an inadequate present and a deprived future. Its necessity can make us love it inordinately. We know to love it is the root of all kinds of evil. Jesus reminded us that we cannot serve it and God. What is the answer? Trust the One who will never forsake you. That is the context of the promise in Hebrews. God is our Provider. We don’t need to love money; the One Whom we really love will not forsake us, therefore we can be content with what we have.
