Yours the Kingdom
“Yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever” (Matthew 6:14). It is more than significant that this prayer begins and ends with the kingdom of God. When Jesus arrived His message was, “Repent, for the kingdom of God has arrived.” We would better understand this, since we are not accustomed to monarchies, to substitute “government” for “kingdom. “Yours is the government, and the power, and the glory, forever” would help us to put all politics into its proper place. The government of God has come, is here, and will come. It sits above all others; all governments will be judged to the degree that they conformed to God’s standard of mercy, justice, and compassion (Matthew 25:31-46).
