Yours the Kingdom
“Yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever” (Matthew 6:14). Before we analyze this verse we must know that it is a hymn of praise. “Songs and poetry” can’t be fully analyzed any more than we can dissect an eagle’s feathers while it is in flight. With this ending the prayer sings! Praise and commitment is what makes our prayers sing. It is both melody and harmony. Prayers that are all asking cannot sing; prayers without praise are off-key monotones that selfish children sing. Praise can change the attitude of our prayers; real from-the-heart praise can change the altitude of our prayers. Selfish prayers, empty of praise and empty of worshipful awe never get higher than the ceiling anyway.
