Deliver Us
“Deliver us from the evil one” (Matthew 6:13b). In temptation, the evil one, entices us at the point of our desires, seeking to induce us to satisfy normal desires in an illegitimate manner (that’s what sin is). For the enticement to work, the evil one wants us to focus only on what he projects on the screen. To do that, he will always want us to forget much. He will want us to “not remember”, at the moment, our commitment to Christ, the church, our family, our influence, God’s word and the way yielding will change us. He will certainly not want us to pray in the hour of testing; especially not, “Deliver us from the evil one.”
“But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire.” James 1:14 (ESV)
