Our Father (B)
“Our Father who is in Heaven, Hallowed be your name” (Matthew 6:9). None of our fathers were perfect. Most of us who are fathers carry some measure of guilt because we did not do a better job than we did. Even if we could go the “second time around”, there would still be mistakes. The fact remains that earthly fathers are imperfect. The tragedy is that we usually make our “Heavenly Father” to be like our earthly father, if not consciously then subconsciously. There is a better way. There is the example of Jesus Christ who has revealed the Father to us by His very life. “He who has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14:9). He showed us that the Father was about self-sacrificial love in his death on the cross. This gives us a proper vision of our Heavenly Father.
