Forgive Us
“And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors” (Matthew 6:12). Only God can forgive sins. It is God ultimately who is sinned against. Sin is about transgression of the law of God. We live in a culture that does not understand or accept “sin” as a reality for two reasons. One, our culture doubts the existence of God and two, we do not believe that there is an absolute standard of truth, such as we have recorded in the Scriptures. When Jesus forgave sin He was making a divine claim about who He is. When Jesus was being crucified He kept saying, “Father forgive them…” The cross of the Crucified God makes possible a real and full forgiveness.
