Forgive us

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors” (Matthew 6:12).  Daily bread is shared with the animals, but only man can say forgive me.  This prayer sets humans apart as morally responsible creatures.  Pity the person who has abundance of bread and is not forgiven. To find forgiveness, sin must be acknowledged. This is to feel and acknowledge “debt”, “trespass” and “sin”. This calls for humility. “The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart, and…contrite spirit” (Psalm 34:18). “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6).
