Israel was admonished to choose life over death and blessing over the curse (Deuteronomy 27-30). What we miss in this is that the Lord is our life as we obey His voice and hold fast to Him. “Choose life, that you and your offspring may live, loving the LORD your God, obeying his voice and holding fast to him, for he is your life” Deuteronomy 30:19b-20a (ESV). In Him is life; in Christ we have life. Faith is holding fast to Him. Obeying His voice is an expression of true faith.
