We usually think of eternal life as being unending life. It is better understood as the life of eternity. The biblical word is speaking of a quality of life and not the quantity of life. It is the life of Heaven given to earthlings. We partake of the life of eternity, the life of Heaven, even now. To enter into solidarity with Christ is to enter the life of God, even as it enters us. In the incarnate Christ, the life of eternity came among us to invite our entry into it. An open heart receives it, and the darkness is banished.
