We find Jesus in the face of the poor and needy. We find God in the midst of human pain and suffering. When we do not find Him in the highest of our worship, we will find Him among the lowest of the needy. By incarnation, He ran into their burning building. The Man who wore the peasant robe was one with the peasants. The High and Lofty One who inhabits eternity showed up with the lowly. All our loftiness is a denial of Him. If we see ourselves “coming down” to the lowly, we have missed it. God must do a work within us that makes us one with them.
“And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You? When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?” ‘The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’” Matthew 25:38-40, also 44-45 (NASB)
