It is easy to become the kind of person who wants to set everyone else straight. It is easier to sweep up dirt from your neighbor’s porch while letting your own litter lie undisturbed. In fact, that is why we leave it there, so we don’t have to disturb ourselves with it, nor take responsibility for it. We would rather allow someone else’s litter to disturb us, so that we can wear our most self-righteous coat. This is not the way our Lord taught us to act and be in the world.
“The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other men–extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector.” Luke 18:11 (NKJV)
