Luke 4:17-19 (NIV)
17 The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed,
19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
It is significant that Jesus quotes from Isaiah (61:1-3) in His sermon at His home synagogue of Nazareth. That passage has a strong parallel to the Isaiah fast (Isaiah 58:5-7). Jesus not only quoted 61:1-3, He declared it His mission. His mission was a Spirit-anointed mission of proclamation, freedom, healing, and Jubilee. If it is His mission, it is our mission. We have not been called to entertain. Our mission is to be one of Spirit-anointed liberation and healing.
