A False Choice
To suggest that you are either for evangelism or justice is a false choice; to attach conservative to one and liberal to the other is irrational. The cure for this false choice is to ponder the Isaiah fast and the call for justice by all of the prophets; we should study the ministry of Jesus and that of the Apostles. It was never one or the other; it was always both. We have not truly been discipled until we put into practice the teachings of Jesus. He said, “Make disciples…teaching them to observe all that I commanded you…” (Matthew 28:18-20). We have reduced discipleship to learning when we needed to put into practice in our own lives the actions of Jesus. The Isaiah fast is baked into the Great Commission.
