“He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners” (Luke 4:18, Isaiah 61:1-3).
Sin itself brings slavery. Jesus said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin…so if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:34, 36 NASB). The first exodus proclaimed freedom from Egyptian slavery; the second exodus proclaims the end of sin’s captivity. Because He has come we do not need to remain slaves of sin. His freedom is freedom indeed.
