Why the intercession of Christ? It is certainly not because He is trying to overcome the Father’s reluctance. Intercession is His solidarity with the whole human race, first glimpsed in the incarnation. He has taken our humanity and exalted it to the right hand of the Father. We are now seated in union with Him in heaven (Ephesians 2:6). For the Father to look at Him, the One who is one with the Father and who has become one with us, is to hear His prayers of intercession.
“Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.” Romans 8:34 (ESV)
