Grace wipes out our claims to “self-sufficiency.” In and of ourselves we are insufficient. In His grace there is sufficiency from the One who indwells us and strengthens us. Grace comes to our heart to banish our self-deception that we are “just fine.” Without condemnation the Spirit shows us our un-done-ness and our need for Him and His holiness. In this awakening we are free to choose grace and act responsibly with it.
And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 (NASB)
