(Connecting Advent and Holiness)
“Pursue peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no one will see the Lord” (Hebrews 12:14 NASB). Some translations say “holiness without which…”; it is best translated sanctification. That is we are to pursue the action and process by which we are made holy. Hebrews 12 starts with running the race “looking to Jesus”, and by verse 14 is running toward holiness. This is not two different pursuits. We run after holiness looking to Jesus. We need look for holiness nowhere other than Jesus. When holiness is about legalism, emotionalism or gifts we get our eyes off Jesus. In Christ is all we need to prepare us for His return.
