Our evangelism is often driven by getting people ready for the next world. The evangelism of Jesus and the Apostles was to get converts to the Kingdom of God ready for this world. They were to live their lives for and under God’s government and not the political powers of the moment. They were to live lives now in freedom from religious powers and legalistic rules that dominated them. The prodigal son and his elder brother were invited to start living their lives under the lavish love of the Father. One caught in adultery was not swept into death by pounding stones, but was told to enter a new life in this world by going her way and sinning no more. One was told to sell all, so that he could enter now the “life of the age to come” (translated eternal life). This good news is for your life today.
“The time promised by God has come at last!” he announced. “The Kingdom of God is near! Repent of your sins and believe the Good News!” Mark 1:15 (NLT)
