“God chose you as the firstfruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit” (2 Thessalonians 2:13 (ESV). Sanctification is not something that is in addition to our salvation. It is part and parcel of our salvation. Sanctification is the action and process by which we are being made holy. We are initially made holy by faith in the Messiah. It does not stop there. It cannot stop there. There is too much in us that is unholy that must be cast out, too much that needs to be nailed to the cross, and too many patterns of un-love that must be broken. The Spirit not only guides us to sanctification, His work accomplishes it.
