The purpose of the Bible is a story that ends in Jesus. Israel’s story is one of exodus and exile, rescue and redemption, kingdom and priests, law and justice. This story was retold in some amazing ways, reinterpreted, and creatively reapplied by the prophets and Psalms for every new generation, which was a must for survival. The NT retelling of Israel’s story included Jesus as the fulfillment of all the hopes and dreams of the story. Jesus is the culmination and final meaning of Israel’s story. This is the big picture. This is what the Bible is all about.
“You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life.” John 5:39-40 (ESV)
