The beauty of Jesus in us is a part of Christlikeness.  Christlikeness is the beauty of holiness. It is what makes disciples winsome.  Our short tempers, harsh words and sarcasm deny its presence in us; all of these leave wounded souls in their wake.  Christlikeness has a trail of healing in its wake; its sweeping robe makes the hem of His garment touchable. We don’t get there by nature or nurture; we only get there by the cleansing and sanctifying work of the Holy-making Spirit.  We need His fire to produce in us the beauty of Jesus; we need Him to refine our silver and gold, taking out the dross that keeps the beauty from shining.  Get into His presence, lie there, cry out to Him for cleansing fire.  An old Salvation Army general got it right in the chorus that he wrote.  Sing it; get it stuck in your head and then your heart.

Let the beauty of Jesus be seen in me,

All his wonderful passion and purity,

O thou Spirit divine, all my nature refine,

Till the beauty of Jesus be seen in me.
