In the KJV of Psalm 29:2 and 96:9 we are told to worship the Lord in “the beauty of holiness”. Other translations say to worship Him in the splendor of holiness or some say “holy attire”. This may well refer to the beauty of priestly robes. Jesus embodies the splendor and beauty of holiness! His priestly robes are adorned not just with pomegranates (Exodus 28:34), but with all the Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23a); this fruit is to adorn our lives as well. The beauty of Jesus turned toward the Father is worship; the beauty of Jesus turned toward the world is winsome evangelism. We will struggle with words to know how to describe His beauty, but when we see it we know it. He is lovely and appealing.
“Let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.” 1 Peter 3:4 (ESV)
