The beauty of Jesus was more than being physically attractive; as a matter of fact, the Scriptures tell us that He did not have that kind of face. “When we shall see Him there is no beauty the we should desire Him” (Isaiah 53:2). He did not stand out from other men as a handsome specimen. He was one with all humans, most of whom don’t stand out. His real beauty was the beauty of soul and spirit. We are drawn by His attractive character and His genuine caring. We are gripped by a love that will not let us go; embraced by a compassion that is incarnational. All of this and more is what is meant by the beauty of our beautiful Savior.
“One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.” (Psalm 27:4 ESV)
