When God is first, the gifts He gives flow back to Him in worship and draw us nearer. When He is not first the gifts become idols that take us away from His centrality. We cannot be trusted with anything when He is not Lord of everything. We have become unwitting slaves to accumulation; we feel at home with unbridled consumerism. Things tend to get us off center and out of balance; the presence of the Lord in our lives as our supreme Lord is the only answer to this trap.
