Some religious groups promote a rigid submission to their adherents, others go further and insist on submission from non-adherents.  Christianity teaches submission to a God who submits.  God reconciled the world through a path of submission.  He submitted to being human; He even submitted Himself to His enemies who nailed Him to a cross.  He submissively knocks at the door of the human will awaiting admission.  There is mutual submission in the Trinity.  The NT teaches mutual submission in the Christian Community and marriage.  Our salvation comes in submitting to the God who submitted to incarnation and the cross.  Who could not love to submit to a God like that?  We fail to submit because we want to be god.  In so doing we do not become godly, but ungodly; the real God is not like that.  A life of submission to Him is the path to salvation, happiness and glory.  We are only kidding ourselves if we think salvation is something else.

“God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” Submit therefore to God…Draw near to God and He will draw near to you…Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you.” James 4:6-10 (NASB)
