Not only are our hearts/spirits to be made holy now, so is our body! “Present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship” (Romans 12:1 ESV). Body here represents the totality of the person, both physical and spiritual; spiritual worship includes the body. These two are to be perfectly united in our relationship with God. In addition, I must not do with my body what grieves the Spirit. I cannot begin to worship until my body is a living sacrifice to my Lord. Without this total surrender to God, and loving God with our whole being, our songs and our worship are just so much noise.
