Jesus told His disciples that loving Him and keeping His commandments would open the way for the coming of the Holy Spirit on the community of disciples. This happened on the day of Pentecost. The community of faith needs the environment of loving Jesus and putting into practice His teachings if we are going to be a Spirit-filled community. Worship hype does not bring the Spirit. The Spirit comes on a Jesus-loving community unified around obedience to His teachings.
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever. This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, because he abides with you, and he will be in you.” John 14:15-17 (NRSV)
