“For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God” Romans 8:14 (NRSV). The children of God are not orphans wandering aimlessly in the world. They are not lost nor abandoned. This is much more than companionship. The Spirit is with them to guide them in putting to death the sinful deeds of the body (v. 13). The guidance of the Spirit is not about leading us here and there; in these verses, His guidance is dealing with the parts of our character that need to be cleansed by dying. He is with us to guide us to full Christlikeness. This is the identifying mark of the children of God.
