Jesus promised that His yoke would bring rest to the soul (Matthew 11:29). The legalism of the Pharisees had become a yoke for the people that was unbearable. Religion that is all about rules gets pretty heavy real soon. Some thought that the more sacrifices one makes the more pleased God is. Micah’s response to those who depended on multiplying sacrifices pointed to a simple way. “He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” Micah 6:8 (ESV). If your religion has become a grievous burden, trade it in for a Jesus yoke.
