The order of salvation is justification and then sanctification.  This is perfectly argued by Paul in the letter to the Romans, especially chapter 6.  It is here that the believers, those who “have been made alive from the dead” are to offer themselves to God as slaves of doing right (righteousness) with the result of sanctification.  That is, believer’s life pursuit is personal sanctification.  This second-ness is not so much a timeline of religious experiences as a dimension to which we have entered.  You can “move on” to something else in a timeline, but when you live in a dimension whose goal is to be like Jesus, there is daily work and a daily cross.  Romans 6 is a call to enter this dimension by presenting our new life to Christ and then living a new life of slavery to what is right (righteousness).

“And do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God…For just as you presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, resulting in further lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness, resulting in sanctification.” Romans 6:13,19b (NASB)
