Holiness and its pursuit is never just between God and me, it involves how I treat my fellow humans. It is never mere private piety; it is never just “Jesus and me”. John Wesley said, “There is no holiness that is not social holiness.” This could be translated over into our culture to also say there is no holiness without concern for the hurting of our fellow humans; this hurting includes, but is not limited to, the pain of injustice, depravation, disease, addictions, etc.
Lord Jesus, give me a heart like Your heart. May my heart be so full of Your compassion that it sometimes makes me me hurt. May I embrace that pain the same way I would embrace joy. Amen!
