The legendary Rip Van Winkle slept through a revolution that kept everyone else awake at night. Sleeping through a revolution does not prevent it from carrying you along and waking you up in another place and time. It is easier to sleep than to engage. The church is in such a time where cultural forces are taking us somewhere else. Some want to load us up on a train to transport us back to the time before the revolution. Some see revival’s goal being to take us back to that ideal time, some golden age. We do need revival; we do need our spirits revived and revitalized to serve this present age. We need the Holy Spirit to fill and empower us for today. We need to be wide awake to where the Spirit is carrying us now. His train never goes back. All Aboard!
“He who has ears to hear, let him hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches” (Revelation 2 & 3).
