The Holy Spirit had revealed to a righteous and devout Israelite man that he would not see death until He had seen the Lord’s Messiah. That same Spirit led him to be in the temple when Jesus was presented. His witness was, “Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel” (Luke 2:29-32 ESV). Before his death he saw the One who was to be the hope of the whole world, Jew and Gentile. May all of us, before our deaths, have a clear and full revelation of our Lord Jesus Messiah. This prepares us for living.
