Satan offered Jesus a deal: “The world has been handed over to me, bow before me and I will give it all to you” (Luke 4:5-8). Jesus rejected his way of ruling the world. Instead, Jesus came to bind the strong man and to plunder his house and strip him of his authority (Mark 3:27). On the cross His heel rested upon Satan’s head (Gen 3:15). By death, burial and resurrection Jesus has defeated the dark powers that had held the world in its grip. A new day has arrived. Jesus has dethroned Satan and is now the Lord of the earth. He says after His resurrection, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and earth, go make disciples of all nations” (Mt 28:18-20). Satan falls “like lightning” when disciples go out to do kingdom work (Luke 10:18).
