When we have put to death self-centeredness, allowing the Holy Spirit to deal with our inward pride, then humility is the true end result. We become like the humble God who rode a donkey; we become like the Messiah who washed feet. We stop seeking the chief seats and settle for footstools; we stop trying to be first and are happy for others to go before us. Instead of seeking our own praise, we find praiseworthy things in others. We are not able to do this apart from allowing the Spirit of the self-emptying Christ to enthrone Himself unrivaled in our inner self.
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others” Philippians 2:3-4 (NIV).
