Jesus was appointed by His Father for His mission, and He volunteered for it. The appointing and volunteering occurred simultaneously without debate or reluctance in the councils of the Trinity. The mission flowed out of the very nature of divine love. It is who God is. The Father and Son were not at odds with what was happening on the cross, nor anywhere else in the life of Jesus. The Father is not mad at us while Jesus is kind to us. “God so loved the world that He gave…” The Son so loved the world He came. The Spirit wishes to make that love known and intimate.
