Sin is more than lawbreaking that needs forgiveness; it is a sickness and brokenness that needs to be healed. Salvation is more than deliverance from guilt; it is the healing of the soul. Sin is a failure to love; when we do not love, it sickens our very being; the sign of our recovery is the ability to love God and others. Being saved is to be delivered from inordinate self-love that brings disorder and disease to our inner being. We think of sin as a legal transgression to be punished when it is more a deep inner brokenness that needs God’s healing.
Jesus, thank You that You did not come to condemn us for our transgressions but you came to heal us from our sickness. Thank You for not coming as judge to pronounce our sentence, but for coming as The Great Physician to cure our souls. Amen!
Note: Sorry about the typo in yesterday’s title. It should have been “Giving and Receiving Love”.
