Rome prided itself as the great empire which had given peace to the world. It was peace that was enforced by heavy weaponry. It was a peace that came through brutality. Jesus knew all about the kind of peace which was kept by fear. Jesus promised a peace not like that. His peace sets us free because it is not fueled by fear. Roman methods fail to bring true peace. Christ’s peace is something this world desperately needs.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” John 14:27 (ESV)
