“Focus first on the kingdom of God and righteousness and all these things shall be added to you” (Paraphrase of Matthew 6:33 by Philip Smith); this is a good way of seeing this verse. Certainly, we can’t claim to be “seeking” if we are not focused. Distractions are the enemy of focus. Focus on the kingdom is to be focused on the rule of Christ. Focus on righteousness is doing justice, mercy and compassion; this is the right living that the kingdom calls us to do. Keep focused on our King and acts of doing right (righteousness); this expresses the activity of the kingdom.
