Love covers a multitude of sins. If love is the fulfillment of the law, and it is, then sin is at its core a failure to love. Sins against God thrive when our love for Him is replaced by other loves. It is when we don’t actively love one another that we begin to sin against each other. Love covers a multitude of offenses by displacing unloving acts. A law of physics says that no two objects can occupy the same space at the same time. We need in us the replacing power of love that drives out sin. We need all consuming love that pushes out lesser affections.
“Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins.” 1 Peter 4:8 (NASB)
