We long for self-sufficiency and our inadequacy mocks it.  We want independence while working with tools that someone else has made.  We study to know all we can and forget that our knowledge is built upon people who lived and shared it before we were ever born.  We do not seem to realize that all of this drive is fueled by our own self-righteousness, desiring to claim for ourselves what is really not ours.  When we look into our own heart with an honest look we see how inadequate we are to be self-sufficient.  God’s plan has never been independence, but interdependence.  We belong to the body of Christ.  We are to grow together in both knowledge and maturity.

“Until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.” Ephesians 4:13 (NASB).
