So much of that with which we fill our minds leaves us more empty than when we started.  We nibble at the cotton candy of social media, while neglecting richer stores of knowledge that are all around us.  Never forget that the Great Commandment, according to Jesus, is to also love God with our mind (Matthew 22:37).  There are rich stores of knowledge in all the sciences, with their great discoveries, that can enrich us.  Of course, there is an “ever learning but never coming to the knowledge of the truth” (2 Timothy 3:7). This is cured by knowing that all truth in the universe is God’s truth.  Empty minds create small souls.  We are stewards of our own brains.  Don’t waste it; love God with it.  The discipline of study is our repentance of emptiness.

When you come, bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas, also the books, and above all the parchments.” 2 Timothy 4:13 (ESV)
