“To write the same things again is no trouble to me, and it is a safeguard for you” (Philippians 3:1 NASB). We need to hear the stories again and again; we need to listen to the instructions of our Lord regularly. We repeat the Apostle’s Creed and the Lord’s Prayer for good reason. Hymns remind us. Regular times at the Lord’s table are a holy reminder. We read ancient words every week. Reminders are safeguards. No day more than this day is that so necessary; we are flooded with information, trivia, and beckoning invitations from all quarters. Without keeping the main thing the main thing, our lives can melt into a decaying culture and slide into a sickening morass. We learn by repetition; we stay on the right path by constantly checking the map.
