We rest in the promise, that God no longer remembers our sins. What we must realize about this is that our sins are not mere bad acts that God overlooks; our sins are primarily against God (Psalm 51:4). They hurt God; they cause Him great pain. He chooses not to recall the pain we have caused Him. He does not sit around the throne telling the angels, the 24 elders, and the other living creatures stories of harm done to Him by His creatures. There is no retelling the painful story, there is no basking in His hurt and how bad it was. Instead, He let it go. He chooses not to remember it; He chooses not to recall it. He has released His pain, all for love’s sake. God’s way of forgiving is our pattern of forgiving.
“And I will forgive their wickedness, and I will never again remember their sins.” Jeremiah 31:34 (NLT)
