Confession is knowing myself, and having taken a hard look, telling the truth about myself.  Few ever look deeply into their own heart with its ill motives and skewed intent.  They have been taught by themselves, or others, that it is a denial of holiness to talk about one’s own shortcomings, mistakes, and yes, even sins.  Holy character has to be formed; it is formed by repeated acts of surrender and a realistic facing of self, and with forthright confessions of inner maladies to the One who can heal the soul.

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousnesses” (1 John 1:9).
