Jesus taught that service was the true measure of greatness. This was such a radical idea. This is world transforming when applied. It is how things are to work in the Kingdom of God. We know it was exactly what Jesus taught. Conveniently, we doubt it. We politic to get around it. We maneuver for position. We clamor for chief seats. We want to be great on our own terms and in the way the world sees greatness. It is not Jesus’ way. It is not the way of true disciples.
And He said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who have authority over them are called ‘Benefactors.’ But it is not this way with you, but the one who is the greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like the servant.” Luke 22:25-26 (NASB)
